Ronald Kinnetz

January 11, 1931 — June 16, 2017

Ronald F. Kinnetz, 86, lifelong resident of Mattydale, died Friday, June 16th, 2017. He was the son of the late Floyd and Elsie (Enzinger) Kinnetz. In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (La Celle) Kinnetz, in 2016. Ronald and Mary were married in 1961 and lived in the same home in Mattydale for their 55 years of marriage.

In 1949, Ronald graduated from North Syracuse High School and began his 9 year service in the NY Air National Guard, 138th Fighter Squadron at Hancock Field. He was a Flight Line Mechanic and reached a rank of Technical Sergeant. In 1951, Ronald joined Lamson Corporation in Eastwood, where he held several positions in manufacturing over 42 years.

Ronald was an outdoorsman who enjoyed boating and fishing on Oneida Lake and hunting throughout the region. He enjoyed spending time at the family camp he and his father built on Point Peninsula along Chaumont Bay. He had a great love of dogs, especially Beagles and Retrievers, and owned many throughout his life. During the 1950s and 1960s, he was an accomplished bowler in leagues at several local alleys.

Ronald enjoyed working with his hands and gained great satisfaction from repairing his own cars, lawnmowers and snow blowers. He also spent time taking care of his home, and helping family and friends whenever he was asked. Ronald was a proud improviser and troubleshooter. As the years passed, he enjoyed taking on a role of “supervisor” watching others do the work, while he visited. One of his main priorities was safety and he always thought of ways to make things more safe and reliable. He was dependable and loyal – someone you could count on in a time of need. In addition, Ronald possessed an exceptional memory and shared many stories of life in and around Mattydale and family history.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory & Nancy of Liverpool and Douglas & Laura of Canastota; a sister and brother, Jean Thomas of The Villages, FL and Roger Kinnetz of Asheville, NC; three grandchildren: Derek, Michaela, and Emma; two great grandchildren, Alexis and Logan; and by several nieces and nephews.

Charitable donations in Ronald’s memory may be made to the Upstate Cancer Center at https://www.upstatefoundation.org/Cancer/Give or NAVAC, P.O. Box 215, North Syracuse, NY 13212
