Dorothy J. Knapp, 82, longtime resident of Mattydale, passed away Tuesday, August 18, at her home. A native of Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late James and Flora (Sharpe) Burke.
Dorothy was involved with and served as a Den Mother for Boys Scouts of America Troop #75 in Mattydale. She was an avid book reader who at one time would read a book a day and rate them for others and loved time spent with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. She was currently a member of Brewerton United Methodist Church.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Lawrence, in 1996.
She is survived by her children: Lynne Knapp of Mattydale, Lawrence (Melissa) Knapp of Liverpool, and Lee (Karen) Knapp of Mattydale, as well as Les Sankey whom she thought of as a son; a sister, Kathleen Dupra of East Syracuse; eight grandchildren: Matthew, Korinne, Andrew, Lauren, Daniel, Patrick, Alexandra, and Lee Jr.; her six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to the SFDCU Scholarship Fund, c/o Syracuse Fireman's FCU, 211 Wilkinson St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 - 6 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, followed by a memorial service at 6 pm.
