John Kurtz

John J. Kurtz, 72, of Mattydale died Thursday at home. A native of Syracuse, he resided in Mattydale since 1964.
Mr. Kurtz retired in 1993 as a supervisor with 42 years in the service department of the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. He was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War. John was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a communicant of St. Margaret?s RC Church in Mattydale.
He was predeceased by his brother Charles. Surviving is his wife of 49 years the former Regina Oleksak Kurtz, two daughters Kathryn Stephen Furgal of Williamstown, Judi Kurtz of Liverpool, a son Eric Kurtz of Liverpool, 2 sisters Dolora Marion Kurtz of Syracuse, Rita Skay of Mattydale, 3 grandchildren Ben, Tim and Stacy, several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 am in St. Margaret?s Church. Private burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the St. Margaret?s Angel Fund 203 Roxboro Rd. Mattydale, NY 13211.
