Marlene Kuryla, 81, of Mattydale, passed away Tuesday, July 21, at Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Syracuse. Marlene was born in Syracuse and graduated from North High School. She was the daughter of the late John and Amanda (Strauss) Schwartz. Marlene was a member of the Mattydale-Hinsdale Senior Citizens; she loved playing Bingo and bowled at Strike 'N Spare in various leagues for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Church.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Gertrude Powers, Charles Schwartz and Dorothy Merrill.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward R. Kuryla; three children: Lori (David) Ellis of North Syracuse, John (Carol Koslowski-Trent) Kuryla of Mattydale, and Philip (Lisa) Kuryla of NV; a sister: Diane Hopkins; a brother, John Schwartz; six grandchildren: Aubrey, Andrew, Jake, Johanna, Abigail, and Brianna; and several nieces & nephews.
Contributions in Marlene's memory may be made to the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Dept., 173 East Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Face coverings will be required, and CDC & NYS Dept. of Health guidelines will be enforced. Funeral Services are Saturday, 10:00 am, at the funeral home and will be live-streamed on our website and Facebook for those unable to attend. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, will follow.
