Liverpool

Margaret Mary (Hawalka) Biswanger, 78, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024. Margaret was born on August 16, 1945, in Kingston, PA, to Stanley and Agnes (Drobb) Hawalka.

She graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1963, attended Rosary Hill College, and then transferred to LeMoyne College where she graduated in 1967. Margaret met the love of her life, Robert Biswanger, while they were both working as teachers in the North Syracuse Central School District. They married in August 1968. She was a devoted wife and mother who was very active in her children’s schools and in her church. Margaret was gregarious and loved forging new friendships. She was an avid lover of fiction/literature, and all things related to the written word; and, for a few years, she taught English in North Syracuse.

Margaret enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with Bob during his retirement and, most of all, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her two sons, Robert (Martha) Biswanger, Jr. and Matthew (Laura) Biswanger; her daughter, Kristin (Matthew) Tierney; six beloved grandchildren, Mattie, Michael, Zachary, Alexis, Brett and Samantha; along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) in 2016 and her sister, Maryjean Luteran in 2012.

Family and friends may call from 9:30 – 11:30 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Epiphany Parish (formerly St. Joseph the Worker Church) in Liverpool. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Margaret’s life will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
