Mary B. Gurniak, 94, longtime resident of Mattydale, passed away Thursday, October 27th at Bishop Health and Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse. Mary grew up in Eastwood before moving to Mattydale in 1963. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (Davis) Bennett.
Mary worked as a reservation agent for US Airways in Syracuse for 25 years before retiring in 1991. She loved traveling as much as she could with her family and enjoyed exercising and swimming. Mary followed the career of Dolph Schays as an avid Syracuse Nationals fan and was also a NY Knicks fan. Mary was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Mattydale.
She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Bruno Gurniak, in 1993 and by six siblings: Margaret, Harold, William, Jack, Jane, and Robert.
Mary is survived by her four children: Mark Gurniak of Syracuse, W. James Gurniak of SC, Deborah Paige-Renaud of SC, and Mary (Dan) Hallatt of North Syracuse; a brother, Richard (Bunny) Bennett of FL; grandmother to Matthew, Mark, Ryan, Beth, Douglas, Nathan, and Thomas; and her 8 great grandchildren.
