Josephine A. Di Matteo, 92, of the Malta House, North Syracuse died Wednesday at Loretto Cunningham. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Donato and Anna Schena and resided in the Syracuse area for 47 years before moving to North Syracuse in 2003. She also wintered in Pompano Beach, Fl. with her sister from 1984 to 1999. Josephine was a counter clerk in the Bakery at Sibleys Dept. store for 12 years until the early 1970?s. She was a long time member of St. Peter?s Church in Syracuse and was most recently a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. Before she married her late husband Phillip Di Matteo who died in 1989, she worked for many years for the Learbury Clothing Co. She was also predeceased by a brother Sam Schena and three sisters Adeline Falcone, Theresa Robar and Vince Laurenzo.
Surviving are two sons Louis J. Karen Di Matteo of Grand Island, NY, and Phillip J. Shirley Di Matteo of Cicero, a sister Mary Barnaba formerly of Syracuse, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon at St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Syracuse. Contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, CNY Chapter, Learbury Center, 401 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13203.
