Maureen Scripa

Maureen “Wow” Scripa, 72, of North Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, with her daughter by her side at Francis House. Raised in Scotland, Maureen was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Dunlop) McHugh. She moved to the U.S. at the age of 12 and grew up on the North side of Syracuse. She graduated from Henninger High School and immediately entered the workforce, working until the day she retired. Maureen finally became a U.S. Citizen in 2008 so she would have the right to vote in our elections.

Maureen retired in 2018 after 20+ years as a bookkeeper for Roy Stanley Inc. She was a member of The Amazing Bloomers of Ballston Spa where she enjoyed cardmaking, papercraft and traveling to and with the group. Maureen was an avid gardener, roses being her true passion, she was a past member of the Syracuse Rose Society and even entered her own roses in competition at The Great New York State Fair. A lover of photography, animals domestic and wild, a voracious reader, she had multiple sewing machines and never found a sewing project she couldn’t conquer. Maureen possessed the true spirit of “DIY”. She was always the “smart one” and the “rebel”. She drove stick shift, had great taste in music, and played the tambourine (sorta). Maureen had a sense of humor like no other but above all, she had pure heart. She might use discretion- but never lied.

Wow was predeceased by her son of choice, Joe Schoch, and by her grand pup, DeLorenzo, both this past year.

She is survived by her daughter, Audra Schoch of Cicero; and her larger than life parrot, Micky.

Contributions in Maureen’s memory may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208 who provided a great deal comfort and respite to Maureen, her family, and all the families they serve.

Friends may call Saturday, February 4^th, from 12:00 - 2 :00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a Celebration of Life following at 2:00 PM.
