Thomas "Tom" V. McKinnon, 71, of Mattydale, died Wednesday at University Hospital from injuries sustained from a fall at home. Born in Auburn Tom resided in Mattydale most of his life. He was the son of the late Harry and Charlotte McKinnon and attended North Syracuse High School.
Tom was a former employee of the Scotch and Sirloin Restaurant in Dewitt and attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. He always enjoyed the holidays especially the Christmas season. Having adopted several cats over the years was one way he expressed his love for animals. Tom enjoyed amateur photography, Gardening, grilling in the back yard and caring for his house and his roommates with whom he developed a family like relationship. He also often donated blood to the Red Cross. Tom looked forward to going to the NYS Fair as well as the Jamesville balloon festival and air shows.
Tom is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Justin and Nicole McKinnon of East Syracuse, a brother Harry (Maryanne) McKinnon of Liverpool, a sister Linda (Keith) Warters of Elmira, two granddaughters Kiersten and Charlotte and an aunt Helen Swanson of Auburn.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 1 pm at the Garden Mausoleum Chapel at Woodlawn Cemetery. Entombment will follow. Contributions may be made to SPCA 5878 E. Molloy Rd. Syracuse, NY 13211.
