April 17, 2005 Julia M. Foody Mehlek, 98, of Liverpool, passed away April 17 at Birchwood Health Center. A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Mehlek resided in Liverpool since 1977. Julia graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School and then from St. Joseph'sSchool of Nursing in 1932. She retired in 1970 after 15 years as senior supervising psychiatric nurse for the NYS Department of Mental Hygiene. Prior to that she worked as a registered nurse for St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Alumni Association. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A., in 1975, and is survived by her two sons, Joseph A. Mary P. Mehlek of DeWitt and John P.Patricia A. of Liverpool; a sister, Catherine Schramm of Syracuse; two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Culkin and Norma Foody, both of Syracuse; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Krueger Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt. Contributions may be made in memory of Julia Mehlek to St. Joseph's Hospital College of Nursing, 302 Prospect Ave., Syracuse, NY 13203.
