Joseph E. Mondo Sr., 84, of Maxwell Ave., North Syracuse died on Sunday at St. Joseph?s Hospital. A native of the North Side of Syracuse, Joe resided in North Syracuse for the past 35 years. He attended Prescott High and was an Army veteran of WW II. Before his retirement in 1995 with 35 years as a self employed Linoleum Mechanic, he worked for Lay-Rite Floors. Prior to that he was a salesman for Huffman Candies. He also owned and operated Dottie?s Coffee Bar with his late wife Olga for several years. He was a life member of both the American Legion Post 1832 in Mattydale and the VFW Post 7290 in North Syracuse. Joe was also a member of the Pioneer Horseshoe club, enjoyed bowling and belonged to several area leagues for many years.
In addition to his wife Olga who died in 1988 he was also predeceased by his son Charles in 1979.
He is survived by three sons Joseph Cindy Mondo Jr. of North Syracuse, Andrew Margaret Mondo of Mattydale, David JoAnn Mondo of North Syracuse, a daughter Rebecca David Murray of Mesa, AZ, a sister Santa Lobello of St. Camillus, four grandchildren Joseph, Nichole, Courtney , Nicole and a great granddaughter Amanda.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday at the Krueger Funeral Home, Mattydale. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday at the. Funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd.
