Orlando "Orlie" B. Monroe, 78, of 8806 Beach Road in Brewerton died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in North Rose on November 13, 1931, he was the son of the late Orlando B. and Mabel Granger Monroe. Orlando resided in Brewerton for the past 23 years.
Orlie was a well-known, self-employed contractor EMM Enterprises and also worked as a subcontractor for UPS for over 30 years. He was a past fire chief of the Homer Volunteer Fire Dept., and rode in the annual Tour de Cure for the American Diabetes Association. Orlando was a skilled and creative carpenter and cabinet maker. He enjoyed spending time with his family, boating and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene and Mildred.
Surviving are his beloved wife, the former Evelyn Clark; his five children: Linda David Long of Ellsworth, ME, Patricia Stafford-Kurtz of Tully, Steven Monroe of Wolcott, Kenneth Sandra Stafford of Preble, and Arron Yasuko Monroe of Brewerton; a sister: Grace Dewey; his seven grandchildren: Kelly, Mike, Amy, David, Bill, Kenny, and Lena; two great grandchildren: Anastasia and Christopher; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-7 pm Wednesday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Service will begin on Thursday, 10 am at the funeral home. Contributions in Orlie's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 506 E. Washington St., Syracuse NY 13202.
