Helen J. Thornton Muhl, 88, of Garden City Drive in Mattydale, died Tuesday in Pittsburgh, PA. Helen was a native of Syracuse and resided in Mattydale since 1950. She was the daughter of the late James and Phoebe Thornton.
Helen was a 1938 graduate of Eastwood High School and retired in 1983 after working at CVS Pharmacy in Mattydale for 8 years. She was a member of the Mattydale-Hinsdale and the Socialites senior groups, as well as a communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, George Muhl in 2008 and by her four brothers: George, James, Arthur, and Henry Thornton.
Surviving are her son: Robert Peg Muhl of Pittsburgh; her sister: Leona Brefka of East Syracuse; four grandchildren: Maureen Golden, Robert Muhl, Amy Shirey and Michelle Kirkpatrick; six great grandchildren: Andrew, Marina, Kaitlyn, Sophia, Hannah and Owen; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends may call from 8:30am-9:30am Saturday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Prayer will begin at 9:30am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church at 10am. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Margaret's School Angel Fund, 203 Roxboro Road, Mattydale NY 13211.
