MSGT. Robert V. Oeinck, 83, of Central Square, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at home. Robert grew up in the Mattydale area and graduated in 1949 from North Syracuse High before starting his military career. He was the son of the late Eugene and Martha (Nash) Oeinck.
Robert served in the US Air Force for over 22 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. After being discharged, he worked in the food service department at Syracuse University for 10 years. Robert also worked for National Car Rental for several years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #787 in Cicero and a former member of St. Margaret's Church. Robert was an avid bowler mainly at Bowling Green Lanes in North Syracuse and loved hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the former Joan Mele.
Robert is survived by their four children: Lou Ann (Jack) Hall of Clay, Donna (Bob) Chesler of Clay, Robert V. Oeinck II of Syracuse and Martha (John) Alex of Central Square with whom he resided; seven grandchildren: Chris Chesler of Columbus, OH, Holly (Jack) Smeriglio of Central Square, Stephen Chesler of Clay, Heather (Brian) Shorney of Central Square, Robert V. Oeinck, III of Syracuse, Thomas Hall of Liverpool, and Jamie (Mike) Brisbin of TN; 13 great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home Inc., 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
