Phyllis A. Baum, 91, resident of Central Square for 60 years before moving to Rochester, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025. Born on March 31, 1933 and raised on the North side of Syracuse, Phyllis was a 1951 graduate of St. John the Baptist. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Marie (Obert) Tausend.
Phyllis retired from Muench-Kreuzer Candle Co. in Syracuse. Previously, she worked for Wells & Coverly and NY Telephone. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Everyone in the family has an afghan that was handcrafted by her.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Alvaro Baum, and their daughter, Karen Nicoletti, both in 2010.
Surviving are her two children, David Baum of Perryville, MD and Deborah O’Neil of Rochester; three grandchildren: Patrick (Jennifer) O’Neil, Meghan O’Neil, and Victoria Nicoletti; four great grandchildren: Anthony, James, Clara and Henry; a sister; and many nieces and nephews.
