Chester "Chet" K. Poplawski, 89, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at home with his family at his side.. Chet was born and raised in Syracuse where he attended Vocational High School before leaving to serve in the US Navy during World War II. He was the son of the late John and Genevieve (Jasinski) Poplawski.
Chet served aboard the USS Huntington CL107 which was a fighter and scout planes launcher stationed in the Atlantic during his time enlisted. He worked as a pressman at Syracuse Colorpress for 27 years and then for Syracuse Newspapers until he retired in 1991. Chet was a member of the American Legion Post #1832 in Mattydale and coached for the Mattydale Little League. He was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church where he also served as an usher. Chet's favorite pastime and the thing he enjoyed the most in life, was time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, Chet was predeceased by a brother, Leon. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Nancy (McDonell); their seven children: Cheryl (Steven) Feder of Rochester, Karl of Clay, Bruce of Mattydale, Denise (George) Harrington of North Syracuse, David (Kristy) of Schenectady, Kevin (Tracey) of North Syracuse, and Wendy of Mattydale; three siblings: Edmond Palmer of FL, Janine Puliatti of East Syracuse, and Regina Lamb of Mattydale; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer Feder, Rebecca (Josh) Nyerges, Carrie Feder, Sara (Dan) Radecki, George (Jennifer) Harrington, Laura (Pete Gavin) Harrington, Joshua (Christina Shover), Amanda (Mark Auer), Mathew, Ryan, and Cory Poplawski; seven great grandchildren: George, Nathan, Peter, Braydan, Austin, Elena, and Jacob as well as one expected in December; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayer Services will begin on Saturday, 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a
10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
