Betsy J. (Ross) Race, 88, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully at The Commons on St. Anthony on Tuesday, April 30th. She was born in Ogdensburg, NY and was the daughter of the late Robert Jay and Beatrice M. Ross.
Betsy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, a homemaker and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening; she loved camping at the family cottage on Charleston Lake. Betsy was always creative with arts & crafts. She was an excellent cook and baker and was always in the kitchen cooking for her family get-togethers and holidays as family gatherings meant the world to her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Race in 2016 and at that time they had been married for 67 years.
Betsy is survived by daughters: Cynthia Hutson and Robin (Robert) Stiles; sons: David (Joannie) Race and Gregory (Cherie) Race; a sister, Barbara (Kenneth) Gregory; a brother, George (Linda) Ross; 15 grandchildren: Kris, Meaghan, Michael, Katherine, Kevin, Robert, Jeffrey, Laurie, Timothy, Kathleen, Maggie, Ben, Matthew, Scott, and Kathryn; 15 great grandchildren: Robbie, Savannah, Sawyer, Bradley, Tristen, Ethan, Audrey, Meiline, Taylor, Sidney, Cameron, Gia, Leo, Wesley and Shaela; a cousin, Gary (Cheryl) Madlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Her daughter, Cindy, was her caregiver for about a year until she could no longer care for her alone and a dear friend of the family, Linda Danboise, a home health aide, stepped in with Cindy to care for her in her last year of life. Linda was a devoted caregiver and gave her tending loving care as though our mother was her very own mother. Mom loved her. The family was so thankful and blessed to have had Linda care for her.
The family also wishes to thank the staff on the 6th floor at The Commons for their vigilance and constant care of their mom during her last two months of life.
