Maria Rea, 84, of Raphael Ave in Mattydale, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Maria was a native of Krakow, Poland and resided in Mattydale since 1955. During the Blitzkrieg in 1939, she was separated from her family and forced to labor at a steel mill in Germany where she was later liberated by the Allied Forces and immigrated to the US in 1952. Maria volunteered for the Rescue Mission in Syracuse during later years and enjoyed fishing and camping.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Rea, in 1993.
Maria is survived by her two sons: David Rea with whom she resided, and Michael Lisa Rea of Mattydale; and two grandchildren: Michael and Jamie Rea.
