James M. Reed, 78, of North Syracuse, died Tuesday, January 2nd unexpectedly at St. Joseph's Hospital with his family by his side. Jim grew up in the Albany area, the son of the late Raymond J. and Mary C. (Thompson) Reed. He was a 1957 graduate of Vincentian Institute in Albany and resided in North Syracuse for the past 44 years.
Jim served in the US Army National Guard for seven years. He retired in 1999 after 20 years as a Senior Hearing Claims Representative for New York State Insurance Fund. Jim was a member of the Loyal Order of the Elks Lodge in both Albany and Syracuse and a member of the CNY Largescale Railway Club, formerly the Central New York Garden Railway Club. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and a member of their Men's Society.
James is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Mary Agnes (King); their three children: Michael (Michelle) Reed of Mattydale, Bethany (Mark) D'Alberto of North Syracuse, and David (Teresa) Reed of Syracuse; three siblings: Kathleen (Robert) Tobias of Andover, MA, Patricia Sweenie of Braintree, MA, and Paul (Rosemarie) Reed of Albany, NY; 8 grandchildren: Michael, Mary Anne, Graceanne, Cecilia, Jane, Jillian, James, and Jackson; and by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3 - 6 pm at Krueger Funeral Home Inc., 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayer services will begin Monday, 9:30 am, at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church, 203 Roxboro Road, Mattydale. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
