Francis D. Retzbach

December 28, 1917 — February 20, 2015

Francis D. Retzbach, 97, of Mattydale, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. Francis was born in Syracuse where he graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy. He resided in Mattydale for the past 60 years and was the son of the late Grover and Ruby (Diefendorf) Retzbach.

Francis was a veteran of the US Army serving 45 months overseas in the Pacific during World War II, Pearl Harbor and the Saipan Invasion. He was a Radio School graduate on the GI Bill and retired in 1974 after 30 years as a television repair man for various local businesses. Francis loved pitching horseshoes in area tournaments, sports, and fishing on Hyde Lake where he maintained a camp.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian (March) in 1994 and by his brother, Meryl.

Surviving are his only son, David F. and his wife, Carol, of Mattydale; two grandsons: Paul and his wife, Jennifer, of North Syracuse and David F., Jr. (Heidi Morganstern) of Lyons, NY; and five great grandchildren.

The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, contributions in Francis's memory be made to NAVAC, P.O. Box 215, N. Syracuse, NY, 13212.
