Sergeant First Class, John W. Riecke, 55, of Wooderton Path, Cicero, beloved husband, brother, son, stepfather and grandfather passed away Sunday at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse. John was a native of Binghamton and was the son of Georgia L. Burford and the late Robert E. Riecke, Sr. He graduated from Windsor High School and resided throughout the US and abroad including 20 years in Goshen Ohio and four years in Germany before moving to Cicero in 2005.
John is a US Army Vietnam veteran. He returned to Active duty in 2001, serving in Kosovo and Germany. He was then assigned to the 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion and the 108th Drill Sergeant School at the Army Reserve base in Mattydale.
John was predeceased by his father, Robert Riecke, Sr, and two brothers, Leland and Edward Riecke. Surviving are his wife, Karen Woodlock Julian Riecke, a step-daughter, Kalani Joseph Hewitt, and beloved granddaughter Malia, all of Aurora, CO, his mother, Georgia Riecke of Harpursville, NY, three sisters, Donna Riecke of Harpursville, NY, Judith Utyro of Binghamton and Sharon Northrop of Weyers Cove, VA, three brothers Robert Riecke Jr. and Kenneth Riecke of Binghamton, and Andrew Riecke of West Harrison, IN.
Funeral Services will be at 6 pm Thursday at the Krueger Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale.
