Julia Rioux

Julia "Julie" M. Rioux, 68, of Hastings, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Francis House after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Syracuse to the late John and Betty Sappington, Julie was raised in Mattydale where she was a 1967 graduate of North Syracuse High School.

After raising her family, she worked for the Central Square School District. Julie was an intake worker for the Surgery Center at Crouse Hospital before becoming the Property Manager of Brentwood Village Apts. She retired from Coldwell Banker as an Administrative Assistant.

She was very involved in her children's activities including scouts and baseball and loved gardening. She was a Master Reiki Therapist who loved the outdoors & traveling especially her visits to see family in Florida. Julie was an accomplished crocheter and an avid reader.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Summer Rioux and her brother, Dick Sappington.

Julie is survived by two children, Christian Rioux of Hastings and Michelle (Lloyd) Knevelbaard of Wellington, FL and their father, Frank Rioux of FL; her two sisters: Betty (John) Patchett of Mattydale and Mary (Bob) O'Hara of Clay; a sister in law, Norma Sappington of TX; four grandchildren: Christopher Sr., Brittany, Darcey and Gisele; three great grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Kennedy and Sabrina; her long time friend, Dale Dupre; one of her beloved caregivers, Christine McClusky; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends & family may call on Friday, October 20th, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 7:00 pm.
