Joseph A. Sanfilippo Sr., 70, of Van Antwerp Drive in Cicero, died Thursday at his home of Cancer surrounded by his family. Joseph has resided in Cicero since 1944. He built and maintained a camp in the Adirondacks known to his family and friends as "Daddy's Place". He was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa Sanfilippo.
Joseph was a 1957 graduate of North Syracuse High. He was in the US Navy Reserves for six years in Norfolk, VA. Joe retired in 1997 after 15years as an inspector for Carrier Corporation and then as a field engineer and inspector for 23 years with the Drainage and Sanitation Department of Onondaga County. Joseph was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero, a life member of the South Bay Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of the North Syracuse School Board for over 10 years, and a member of the Oneida Lake Association. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a boating and camping enthusiast.
Joe was a devoted and loving Husband, Father and Grandfather and was survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Sally A. Fecht; his two daughters: Carol David Vigliotti of Cicero, and Judy Kevin Davidson of Bridgeport; his two sons: Joseph Jennifer Sanfilippo Jr. and Mark Melissa Sanfilippo both of Cicero; his two sisters: Marian Maselli of North Syracuse, and Julia Chiarizia of Cicero; and 8 Grandchildren, Julia, Jill, David, John, Nicole, Mark, Kevin, Maria, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Sunday from 1-5pm at Krueger Funeral Home Inc., 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, NY. Prayer will be held on Monday at 8:45am at the funeral home followed by 9:30am Mass at Sacred Heart Church of Cicero. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
