Carl "Corky" Schafer, Jr., 59, of North Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, after a lengthy battle with Leukemia. Carl grew up on the North side of Syracuse and was a 1973 graduate of Henninger High School. He resided in the North Syracuse area for the past 20 years.
Carl owned and operated Schafer's Painting Company for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he owned the former Schafer's Trash Removal and later worked for Waste Management. Carl was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed camping on the St. Lawrence. He also looked forward to visiting Syracuse China with his daughter to search for treasures. Carl attended Midler Ave Wesleyan Church in Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his wife of 20 years, Patricia Roach, in 2012, his father, Carl J. Schafer, Sr., in 2002 and by his half-brother, Ryan Schafer, in 2007.
Surviving to cherish his memories are two daughters: Emily Schafer of Syracuse and Sarah Furlong; a step-daughter, Jordanne Conklin; his mother, Virginia Schafer of Liverpool; two sisters: Debbie (Tom) Rinauto and Tracy (Dan Schwartz) Schafer; six brothers: Tim (Gina), Robert (Jan), Jeffrey, James, John (Cheryl), and Stephen (Lori) Schafer; his two half-brothers: Nicholas and Kyle Schafer; three grandchildren: Louis, Danaria, and Dominick; several nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Bella and Peanut; and his best friend, Frank DiRoma.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family of Carl, c/o Virginia Schafer, 211 Rebecca Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians and staff on the 10th floor at Upstate University Hospital for their compassionate care during Carl's stay.
Friends may call on Monday from 10 am - 12 pm at Midler Ave. Wesleyan Church, 511 South Midler Ave., Syracuse. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 pm at church and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.
