Theodore "Ted" A. Scheirer, 85, of North Syracuse died Wednesday at Central Park Nursing Home. He was a native of Syracuse and grew up in the Solvay area. He was the son of the late Theodore and Marie Scheirer and step son of the late Mary Scheirer. Ted resided with his wife Harriet on Daphne Drive for 15 years prior to moving onto Tallowood Court in 1989 where they resided for 20 years.
Ted was a 1941 graduate of Solvay High and a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in Europe and then served with the New York Air National Guard 174th Fighter Wing for over 40 years before retiring in 1983 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was involved with the Berlin Crisis in 1961-1962 at the Phalsbourg Air Force Base and the USS Pueblo Crisis in 1968 at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. He was also a member of the 174th Alumni Association. Ted was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling for many years. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church where he served as an usher.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Harriet M. Fix; a daughter: Doris Kuryla of North Syracuse; his four sons: Gary Rita Scheirer of Clay, Jerry Paula Scheirer of Liverpool, Larry Rose Scheirer of NC, and Terry Cindy Scheirer of Brewerton; eleven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1-4 pm Sunday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral Services will be held Monday, 11 am at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery.
