Charles R. Schill, 88, of Cullman, Alabama, died October 31, 2013. A native of Syracuse, Charles was raised in Mattydale where he graduated from North Syracuse High before moving to Alabama where he resided for the past 28 years. He was the son of the late Charles and Louise (Klotz) Schill.
Charles joined the US Navy in 1941 and served during World War II and Korea. He retired from the Navy after 22 years serving aboard aircraft carriers as an aviator, gunner and aviation machinist mate. In his later years, Charles flew with the Hurricane Chasers out of Florida, worked at Wylie Test Labs in Huntsville, AL, and built helicopters in NJ. He was a former communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ann (Puckett) of AL: seven sons: Charles (Susan), Edward, James (Mary), Paul, Raymond (Barbara), Joseph, and Kevin; his two sisters: Betty Reilly and Shirley Furgal, both of Mattydale; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends may call Saturday, January 18, from 9 - 10 am at St. Margaret's Church with a Memorial Service following at 10 am.
