Deborah Hawn Shriver, 64, of Smithfield, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 6, 2017, after a brief illness. Born on May 16, 1953 to Helen Hawn and the late Earl Hawn, she was the younger of two children. She grew up in Syracuse, in a large, extended family that shares many great memories of her. In 1977 Deborah married Robert Shriver, and they spent their adult life in Stafford, VA, raising two sons before settling in Smithfield, VA.
Deborah was known for her kindness and caring for others – whether human or pets. She was a devoted volunteer to many local organizations that enjoyed gardening and helping homeless animals, but was notably happiest when surrounded by her family. She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
Deborah was predeceased by her father, Earl Hawn and her son, Christopher Hawn Shriver. She is survived by her husband, Robert Shriver, of Smithfield, VA; mother, Helen Hawn, of Mattydale; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Austin Shriver, of Richmond, VA; grandson, Christopher Shriver, of Richmond, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Mary Hawn, of Marquette, MI; and sister in law, Catherine Carter, of Atlanta, GA; amongst other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road in Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin on Wednesday, 9:30 am, at the funeral home with a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial following at Saint Margaret’s Church in Mattydale. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum, Syracuse – where she will rest near her fishing buddies, son Christopher Shriver and father Earl Hawn.
