Lt. Robert "Bobby" E. Snogles, 64, of Dilley Hill Road in Norwich, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bobby was a native of Syracuse and grew up in the North Syracuse/Cicero area; he had resided in Norwich since 2001 and was the son of Earl R. and the late Kathryn Snogles.
Bobby was a 1962 graduate of North Syracuse High and a U.S. Navy veteran. He earned his dolphins on the USS Sam Houston nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War era. He was a firefighter for 23 years at the City of Syracuse Fire Dept. where he earned the Hendricks Award before retiring in 1996. Bobby was an off ice official for the Syracuse Crunch and a code enforcement officer for the Town of Cicero. He was a member of the Bridgeport, South Shore and Norwich Gun Clubs, the American Legion Post #1297 in North Syracuse, the VFW Post #7290 in Cicero, and attended Malden Road United Church of Christ. Bobby was an avid golfer, bowler, softball player, hunter, fisherman and trapshooter.
He was predeceased by his mother, Kathryn in 1966.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Joyce Lynn Walker; his father and step-mother: Earl R. and Carol Snogles of North Syracuse; his two daughters and sons-in-law: Stacey and Bill Mottl of South New Berlin, and Lee and Mike Fifield of Cicero; his sister: Janice Ceremeli of North Syracuse; his grandchild, Cooper Mottl, who was the light of his life for the past 6 years; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Tuesday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral with full military honors will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
