Helen VanDerveer Stanton, 87, of Clay, passed away January 19, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. Helen was the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth VanDerveer of Syracuse. She graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1947, then worked as a clerk at GE, where she met her future husband, Robert Stanton. They married in September of 1950. She worked in payroll at the Hotel Syracuse until dedicating her life to her family. Animals and gardening brought her joy. She was active as a Girl Scout leader and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Helen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert; her son, Thomas Stanton of Clay; her daughters: Becky (Craig) Kopper of New Hartford, Kathleen (Richard Lathrop) Stanton of Hastings, and Marjorie (Claudio) Stanton of Sodus; her grandchildren: Carleen and Kristen Kopper, Chandra, Jacob, and Hannah Smith; her great-granddaughter, Alysha; her niece/goddaughter Helen Guiles, and nephews Richard (Theresa LaVergne) Kunz and Stephen (Vicki) Kirk.
