Robert N. Stevens, Sr., 65, of 2336 State Route 49 in West Monroe, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter. Robert was a native of Watertown and had lived in the Syracuse area prior to living in West Monroe for the past 23 years. He was the son of the late Robert O. and Georgina Stevens.
Robert served in the US Navy from 1960-1964 aboard the USS Graham County. He then went on to serve in the US Coast Guard Reserve for several years. He was employed 35 years by Iron Workers Union Local #60 in Syracuse before retiring in May, 2008. Prior to that Robert had worked with General Electric Company with the heavy military division in Dyabakir, Turkey. He was an avid Volkswagen enthusiast and was a member of the Volkswagen Club of CNY.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Mary-Jo Carpenter, three sons: Robert N. Jr. of Liverpool, Douglas J. Patricia and a step-granddaughter of Clay, and Daniel O. Michelle Woodhouse of Cicero; his daughter: Amy Allen Sturgeon of Eastwood; two brothers: Lawrence O. of Henderson, NY and Claude J. of CA; two sisters: Elaine Radziseski of Hastings and Barbara Anelli of Liverpool; as well as 11 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call from 1-4pm Sunday at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road in Mattydale, followed by a 4pm funeral service. Spring burial will be in Union Settlement Cemetery, West Monroe.
