Edward ?Ed? H. Straub, 89 of Kirsch Drive, Mattydale died Thursday at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Syracuse, Mr. Straub resided in Mattydale the past 58 years. Ed was an Army veteran of WW II and served in the Pacific Theater. After the war he worked for the General Electric Co. and later owned and operated Main Line Electric for several years before he worked more than 20 years for the General Motors Co. until he retired in 1980. He was a communicant of St. Margaret?s Church in Mattydale, a member of the Salina Civic Seniors, the Track and Racquet Club in Fayetteville, the DAV and the VFW. Ed enoyed his gardening and was a member of the New York State Rose Society. He also competed in the Mountain Goat Run at the Senior Olympics.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Leona Bernet, three daughters Theresa Bertron of Beaufort, SC, Deborah Carroll of Springtown TX, Linda Buddie of Cato, two sons Edward Straub of Minoa, Richard Straub of Cicero, a sister Marion Reddy of Syracuse, nine grandchildren seven great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 pm Sunday at the Krueger Funeral Home. Services will be 9:30 Monday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Margaret?s Church. Burial will be in Onondaga Co Veteran?s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
