Veronica Sutkus

Veronica J. Sutkus, 93, formerly of 106 Windemere Road in Syracuse, died Saturday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Veronica was a native of New Castle, Delaware, grew up in Forest City, PA where she met and married her beloved John. She then resided in Syracuse for 44 years before she moved to Iroquois Nursing Home in 2008. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Kondrat.
Veronica retired in 1986 after 34 years as a Laboratory Technician for The Syracuse Research Foundation at Upstate Medical Center. She helped pioneer AIDS research, loved bingo, was a former member of the Knights of Lithuania, and a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Veronica was predeceased by her husband, John in 1986 and by five sisters: Frances, Tessie, Mary, Helen, and Jean.
Surviving are her two sons: Ronald Shirley Sutkus of FL and Robert Barbara Sutkus of Mattydale; three grandchildren: Lisa, Ronald, Jr., and Dawn Sutkus, all of FL; six great grandchildren; her brother: Joseph Kondrat of Hawley, PA; and a sister: Rose Gisonde of Fl.
Graveside services will be at 11 am Wednesday in Assumption Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, c/o Golisano Children's Hospital at Upstate, 750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.
