Otis "Bucky" A. Thompson, 86, of Mattydale, died Sunday at home. Otis was a native of Syracuse and had resided in Mattydale for 22 years; prior to that he lived on Hope Ave in Syracuse. He was the son of the late Jessica and Otis A. Thompson Sr.
Bucky was an Army Veteran of World War II who served during the Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1984 after 31 years as a police officer for the City of Syracuse Police Department. Bucky was also a member of the Police Benevolent Association and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, the former Dorothy Broga, in 2004 and by his son, Tommy, in 2005.
Surviving are his two sons: Steven Thompson Darleen of Fulton, and Terry Thompson Shirleen of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Jessica Brockway of Cleveland, and Betty Smith of Liverpool; his three grandchildren: Stevie, Jodi and Chad; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9-10am at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Service will begin at 10am followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square.
