Elinor "Ellie" L. Tomb, 81, longtime resident of Mattydale, died Monday at her home. Ellie was a native of Schenectady and resided on Brookfield Road in Mattydale since 1949. She was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Myrtle M. Slingerland Jeffers.
Ellie was a 1947 graduate from Central City Business Institute. She owned and operated Two Hits and a Miss Indoor Archery Range at Sportsarama in Mattydale with her husband Clark from 1959-1965. Following that she worked for three years at Cicero Valley Electric Company before retiring in 1987 after more than 20 years as a bookkeeper for Chapman Lumber in Syracuse. Ellie was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 185 in North Syracuse and also served as their organist for 13 years. She attended Calvary United Methodist Church and was their choir director for more than 20 years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Clark Tomb, in 2006 and her two grandsons, Greg Haberek and Ted Bentley.
Surviving are her two daughters: Karen Greg Haberek of Jamesville, and Kathy Bentley of East Syracuse; two sons: Kenneth Connie Tomb of Hudson Falls, NY and Kevin Debbie Tomb of Hastings; eight grandchildren; and her five great grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday 3-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 6:45 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 7 pm. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt. Contributions in Ellie's memory may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 201 E.
