Eugen Turschmann

Eugen Berthold Turschmann May 4, 2005 Eugen B. Turschmann, 97, of Campbell Rd., Mattydale, died Wednesday at his home. A native of Karlsruhe, Germany, Mr. Turschmann resided in Mattydale since 1959. He retired in 1960 after 17 years as a salesman for various food companies in-cluding Hathaway and Penny Curtis Baking Cos. in Syracuse. He also worked as an independent caregiver for the NYS Dept. of Mental Health. He was an amateur poet and has been published in both Germany and the U.S. including the Stars & Stripes and The Post-Standard. He also was a member of the Steuben Society. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, the former Agnes Ernst, in 1997, and two daughters, Louise Mergenthal and Doris Freyer. Surviving are four daughters, Elsie Stein of Poughkeepsie, Linda Diaz of Paramus, NJ, Jean Dodge of High Point, NC, Sue McIntyre of Mattydale; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Krueger Funeral Home in Mattydale. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd.
