Veronica D. "Ronnie" VanBuren, 90, of Mattydale, died Sunday at the home of a close friend. Born and raised in Solvay, Ronnie graduated from Solvay High School in 1945. She was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Owczarek .
Ronnie retired in 1967 after 21 years as an administrative assistant at Crouse Hinds Corp in Syracuse. After that, she worked for several years for Dr. Kidder at North Medical Center. Ronnie enjoyed spending many happy celebrations with family members and flying with her late husband John in the planes he owned. She attended Beacon Baptist Church in Clay and Malden Road United Church of Christ in Mattydale.
Ronnie was predeceased by her husband, John M. VanBuren, in 1995 after almost 50 years celebrated together, and by her three brothers, four sisters, a niece and two nephews.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in the Neufang and Spencer families; her adopted neighbors, Sharon and Bill Martin, as well as her special friends including Else Inholz, Edward Arseneau, Margaret Taylor, Janine and Edward David, Jean Fredericks, Floyd and Doris Slye.
Ronnie was in a fan club of radio celebrity Phil Markert.
Ronnie wished contributions in her memory be made Beacon Baptist Church in care of Pr. Victor and Mrs. Linda Watkins, 4800 Rt. 31, Clay, NY 13041 or to Malden Road United Church of Christ, 108 Malden Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Services will begin on Thursday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
