Donald VanNorstrand

Donald E. VanNorstrand, 84, of Campbell Rd., Mattydale died Friday at St. Joseph?s Health Care Center following a long Illness. A native of Ira, NY Mr. VanNorstrand resided in Port Byron and Plattsburgh for several years before moving to Mattydale in 1971, He was a naval veteran of WWII and served with the Beach Battalion of the Pacific Fleet. Don retired in 1983 after 26 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the I.B.E.W. Local # 1249 in Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Elizabeth J. Reil in 1969. Surviving are his son Donald E. VanNorstrand Jr. with whom he resided, 3 step daughters Diane Weaver and Bonnie Barber both of Kansas City, KS, Carol Anderson, of Laurel, MD, a sister Flossie Tehan, of Onondaga Hill, eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 3:30 pm Tuesday, which will be followed by a funeral service with military honors at 3:30 at the Krueger Funeral Home 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Spring burial will be in Weedsport Rural Cemetery.
