Durwin ?Woody? F. Wood, 76, of Leonard St., Mattydale, died January 3rd after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Depeyster he was the son of the late Helen and Leland Wood, graduated in 1947 from Richville High and was an army veteran during the Korean War. He resided in Mattydale since 1964 and had spent the past 10 winters in Zephyrhills, FL
Woody retired in 1985 after more than 30 years as a truck driver for various local companies including Frontier Delivery. He was a parishioner of the Malden Road United Church of Christ and was a former Trustee. He was a member of the Teamsters Retirees local # 317 and a member of the V.F.W. Post 3146 in Mattydale.
He was predeceased by two brothers Carlton Wood and Otto ?Bud? Benjamin. Surviving are his wife of 48 years the former Joanne Conklin Wood, a son Andrew Kay J. Wood of Virginia Beach, VA, a daughter Shelley E. Vance Lederman of Syracuse, two sisters Carmen Patterson of Ogdensburg, Audrey Fox of Ballston Spa, a brother-in-law John Conklin of Florida and three grandsons Cory and Kyle Patchett and Orion Wood all of Syracuse, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday May 20 in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Richville. Contributions may be made to Malden Rd. United Church of Christ, 108 Malden Rd. Mattydale, NY 13211 or the SPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Rd. Mattydale, NY 13211.
