Donald D. Woodworth ?Woody?, 73 of Reis Dr., Cicero died Monday at St. Joseph?s Hospital. Born and raised in Eastwood, Woody resided in Mattydale for most of his life before moving to Cicero 6 years ago. He was a 1951 Graduate of HW Smith Technical and Industrial High School from which he received a SUNY degree in Graphic Arts. He was always a great athlete, but in his youth he received the Babe Ruth award in High School and actually tried out to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Woody retired in 1991 after 39 years of faithful service as a Systems Rate Analyst for the Niagara Mohawk Power Co. He was an army veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a long time member of the Past Times Athletic Club. He loved playing golf, and he coached baseball and basketball. In 1976 he was the MVP for the City Rec. softball league. Woody was loved, respected and admired by many and was also was a great confidant.
Surviving are two daughters Denise R. and David Naherny of Center Valley, PA, Diane L. Woodworth of Cicero, three sons Donald P. and Cathy Phelps-Woodworth of Manchester,, Bruce J. of Brewerton, Kenneth D. of Liverpool along with their mother Ruth E. Woodworth of Oswego, his sister Gail Kelley of Leesburg, VA, 5 grandchildren Jennifer, Leah, Kenny Jr., Natalie, and Stephanie.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday at the Krueger Funeral Home 2619 Brewerton Rd. Mattydale. Services will be 12 noon at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Cazenovia.
