Edward D. Yankay, 79, of Mattydale, died Thursday April 28, 2005 at the VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Exeter, PA and resided in Mattydale for 49 years. He was a proud Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific theater and took part in the invasion of Okinawa.
He was employed by Acme Markets and the North Syracuse Central School District. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Mattydale VFW, the Samson WW II Vets, the Mattydale-Hinsdale Senior Citizens, the Teamsters Local # 317 and St. Margaret?s Roman Catholic Church in Mattydale.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret, two daughters Edwarda ?Kelly? & Paul Kelly of North Syracuse, Peggy Yankay of Mattydale, a son Edward D. Ann Yankay Jr. of Liverpool, a granddaughter Maggie Jeff Hoerl, two grandsons James and Andrew Yankay, a great grandson Kieran Thomas Hoerl, two brothers Thomas Yankay of Florida, Ronald Yankay of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 9:30 am Monday at the Krueger Funeral Home in Mattydale and 10 am in St. Margaret?s Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm Sunday at the funeral home 2619 Brewerton Rd.
