George Yerdon, 86, of Eastwood, passed away Thursday, February 25th, at home with his family by his side. Born in Watertown, George resided on the northside and Lyncourt areas for most of his life and maintained a winter residence in New Port Ritchey, Florida for 19 years until 2020. A graduate of Watertown High School, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1953 where he served with the Strategic Air Command as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.
George retired in 1996 after 28 years as a machinist at New Process Gear in Syracuse. He was a Scout Master of BSA Troop #17 in Lyncourt and served as a Coach for Lyncourt Little League. George loved camping in NY especially at Brennan’s Beach and Ta-ga-soke Campgrounds in Sylvan Beach. He was a communicant of St. Daniel’s Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
George was predeceased by a son, Kevin Yerdon in 2015, a brother, Leon Yerdon, and by his sisters, Ruth Howell and Elizabeth Ligammari.
George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, the former Jean (Cooper); five children: Daryl (Carl Doremus) Yerdon of Milford, NH, Brian (Susan) Yerdon of Syracuse, Lori (Ron) Bosket of Syracuse, Kim (Dave) Mineker of Baldwinsville, and Chris (Erin Perri) Yerdon of Camillus; a sister, Helen Martini of Black River, NY; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Tuesday, 10:00 am, at St. Daniel’s Church. Face coverings will be required, and CDC & NYS Dept. of Health guidelines will be enforced.
